Borderlands 3 Torrent is an action game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. Borderlands 3’s dedication to its visual style is motivating, and once again the cartoonish design, complete with bold outlines combines with exceptional use of color and the aforementioned new cosmic beauty spots to create a sort of chaos-filled comic-book reverie. Aptly for a franchise that persists in promoting itself with one of its many usual Psycho grunts, character designs are outstanding – both concerning players and adversaries. All four Vault Hunters radiate personality, from Zane’s Irish accent to FL4K’s stoic expressions.
Borderlands 3’s campaign delights in its own absurdity, and for the most part, that’s acceptable. The Calypso Twins, primary adversaries, and cosmic online sensations have succeeded in uniting the diverse Bandit factions in an attempt to mobilize a force to unlock vaults concealed beneath Pandora’s surface.
It’s conventional MacGuffin fare, but the regrettable aspect is that the Calypso Twins simply aren’t as captivating as the prior antagonist Handsome Jack. While they taunt through a radio system, they lack any charm and can feel like a podcast you’ve disengaged from after a few conversations.
Other bosses don’t fare much better, despite some absolutely unique designs. Many adhere to the ‘run around an arena killing small enemies and flanking the big bad’ methodology, but sporadic inexpensive difficulty spikes keep things vexing more than challenging. For instance, one adversary can electrify the arena’s floor, providing absolutely no relief.
Gunplay feels fantastic, but the movement is where Borderlands 3 Torrent Magnet has taken incremental steps to provide a more contemporary experience. Your character can now leap and glide, and while these feel long overdue and seemingly minor at first, attempting to revert to (the admittedly outstanding) Borderlands 2 without being able to leap over small pieces of level geometry or baseball slide with a shotgun blast shows just how significant a difference these small adjustments can make.
These weapons can be wielded by one of the franchise’s recognizable four classes, and each presents a remarkably varied play style. Zane’s capability to throw out a duplicate of himself that can inflict damage is excellent, but being able to switch places with said duplicate is a game-changer. Meanwhile, Moze’s capability to summon a mech is a flawless last-ditch maneuver, and FL4K’s diverse monster minions can rapidly thin a horde. For our money, Amara offers the most awesomeness for your buck, able to summon phantom limbs from the ground to crush and slam enemies.
Borderlands 3 Torrent feels like a time capsule of sorts. Despite the prevalence of persistent service games and shared world shooters like The Division or Destiny, Gearbox Software’s initial game in three years feels refreshingly familiar – the video game equivalent of your favorite movie being on TV on a rainy afternoon. It arguably doesn’t provide a great deal that’s new, but with each journey through it, you’ll come to value it more.
