Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition Torrent is an action game developed by Techland and published by Deep Silver. Dead Island Riptide relies on your profound affection for Dead Island. We’re talking adoration to an insatiable degree. Did you cherish Dead Island, were you unable to get enough of its limitless carnage and tropical zombie monstrosities? Riptide hopes so because its primary objective is to deliver precisely more of it and nothing beyond.
The paradoxical aspect is that Riptide is likely to be most appreciated by those entirely new to the series. To a Dead Island veteran, Riptide’s position of, “If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it,” may come across as tedious, especially considering the original game had numerous aspects worth addressing. Moreover, the original setting was much more captivating.
Similar to its forerunner, Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition Torrent Magnet is light on narrative, but there’s the framework of a story in place. The initial survivors of the Banoi outbreak have been picked up by a stereotypical, self-destructively shady military organization and are being held captive on a ship when the zombies make a reappearance. Following an altercation on board, the protagonists wash up on a new island, Palanai, which is grappling with its own zombie crisis. Cue the barrage of to-and-fro missions!
Riptide is not positioning itself as a sequel, which is probably for the best as it genuinely feels like an expansion of the original — to the extent that you can even import your old characters and access their previous levels and unlocked skills. Each character has access to some expanded skills and will likely be close to maxing out their progress trees by the time the campaign concludes. Despite new abilities, none of the existing four characters play notably differently, and all of them generally revert to their hacking or bashing techniques. There is, however, the inclusion of a new hand-to-hand combat character who uses kicks and punches with lethal efficiency.
As always, Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition Torrent is driven entirely by accepting various fetch and kill quests, picking up progressively potent weapons to enhance, and confronting the undead horde with nearly thoughtless hack-and-slash brutality. The “Borderlands with zombies” atmosphere has been retained entirely, with up to four friends able to go online and vanquish the mutants with their preferred blades, guns, hammers, and claws. Generic zombies are once again accompanied by more sophisticated mutations, including the tank-like Thugs, irritating Screamers, and yet more of those colossal, straitjacketed Rams. Just how many insane asylums are there on these islands?
Every positive aspect of Dead Island can be found in Riptide. It’s still satisfying to discover new weapons and customize them to inflict electric, poison, or flame damage. There’s still a fundamental joy in severing limbs and delivering kicks to monsters’ heads and backsides. The infrequent skirmishes with humans remain the most compelling parts of the game. Cooperative play is as entertaining as it ever was. None of this has altered.
This is not to suggest Riptide doesn’t at least endeavor a few concepts of its own. At least concerning the scenario, the game attempts to distinguish itself by introducing new siege-style battles and emphasizing water travel, with boats that can be forcefully rammed into enemies. The game’s essence is in the right place with sieges, but its execution is lacking. While there’s a certain enjoyment in establishing perimeter fences and placing gun turrets before waves of zombies arrive, once the battle commences, it’s simply more mindless chopping with the added vexations of NPCs who constantly require your assistance. Nevertheless, credit for trying something innovative.
