You play the role of a powerful being in control, a ruler of a loyal nation, and you aim to achieve godhood. You possess unimaginable powers and have declared this world as your own. However, there are obstacles in your way – others who oppose you. Your task is to defeat and eliminate these challengers. Only then can you ascend to godhood and become the new Pantokrator.
In Dominions, you take charge of a potent being ruling a nation, aspiring to godhood. The Pretender Gods come in different forms, ranging from magically adept archmages to massive titans or grand monuments. The strengths of these pretender gods vary based on the type of god and nation you choose to play.
At the beginning of the game, you determine your god’s type and how your Dominion influences your lands, followers, and sacred soldiers. It’s an expression of your divine might and the faith of your followers. If your dominion falls, so do you. Your dominion also boosts your sacred warriors, granting them powers derived from it. To emerge as the one true god and win, you must defeat your enemies in one of three ways: conquer their lands, extinguish their dominion, or claim the Thrones of Ascension.
Dominions are set in a fantasy world inspired by historical nations, cultures, and myths. Unlike traditional fantasy, you won’t encounter elves in this game. Instead, you might lead a nation inspired by Norse myth, Aztecs, Romans, Israelites, Greeks, Kievan Rus, or Lovecraftian horrors.
The first Dominions game, released in 2002, received positive feedback from strategy gamers. Since then, the Dominions series has been refined, remaining actively played and becoming one of the longest-running 4x turn-based strategy games.
Dominions 6 Rise of the Pantokrator Torrent has been scaled up compared to Dominions 5, with larger armies. The balance between conventional armies and magic has been adjusted by increasing incomes and resources while making mages more expensive. Battlefield-wide spells are harder to cast, and there are more mid-tier spells, among other changes with the same goal.
The second significant change is the introduction of a new magic path. Illusions are no longer exclusive to Air magic; instead, the path of Glamour manipulates illusions, phantasms, dreams, and legendary elements. This has led to the addition of many new spells, items, and sites in the game.
A third substantial change is the separation of mounts and riders. Riders and mounts now have separate stats and can be targeted individually. Although this change may have a smaller impact on gameplay, it still affects cavalry and nations using mounted units.
Dominions 6 introduces several new nations as well, influenced by the addition of the Glamour path.
