Delta Force Xtreme 2 Torrent is a shooting game where, as a part of the Special Forces Delta Team, you have to safeguard US interests by parachuting into different underdeveloped nations and defeating a mixed group of criminals, drug dealers, and separatists from Uzbekistan. The main draw of the game is big multiplayer battles with vast, sprawling landscapes and support for up to 150 players. However, even in multiplayer, the experience in DFX2 is usually average at best, and the single-player mode is even worse. With gameplay and graphics that are not as good as other military-themed shooting games, Delta Team Xtreme 2 doesn’t offer much to set itself apart.
DFX2 Torrent Magnet follows the Delta Team style of large, open maps and not-so-great graphics with a limited range of basic textures. Even if you’re prepared for budget game graphics, you won’t be ready for these graphics, which are worse than older military FPS games that are even cheaper. Technically, the game doesn’t seem to have improved much since 2005’s Delta Team Xtreme, which wasn’t ahead of its time either. As a result, the unrealistic physics ruins any sense of realism by making vehicles feel like bumper cars and weapon recoil like shooting with a toy water gun.
In multiplayer, nobody plays as the bad guys; instead, everyone looks the same, and you can only tell your teammates apart by their names above their heads. The advertised 150-player limit seems to be mostly a theory – you’ll be lucky to find a server with even one-third of that number. Similarly, the 40 multiplayer maps are mostly variations of the same set of maps for the five different competitive game modes. The standout modes include King of the Hill and Capture the Flag, where good teamwork can help you dominate the competition.
Even though you have a choice of 22 different weapons, including extras like flashbangs and satchel charges, the sniper rifle reigns supreme in DFX2’s big, open settings, so get ready to keep your head down. One minor annoyance in multiplayer is the cluttered and confusing minimap, more so than in single-player. Speaking of single-player, the campaigns are also available for cooperative play, but the difficulty doesn’t seem to adjust, making co-op mode too easy and no more enjoyable than playing solo.
The single-player game consists of two campaigns where you face off against the culturally diverse members of the previously mentioned international criminal network. The story tying them together is barely understandable and mostly revealed in the pre-level mission briefings. Meanwhile, the enemies themselves seem confused too – you’ll sometimes see them dressed for the desert in the middle of a snowy map. Also, the artificial intelligence, while good at long range, is weak up close and can be dumb in certain situations.
While the real Delta Team only accepts the best of the best, Delta Force Xtreme 2 Torrent settles for mediocrity. It just doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, and with so many great shooters on PC, there’s no reason to recommend it, even with its low price tag. Unless you’re a hardcore fan of the series and can’t wait for next year’s installment, you’d be better off spending your money elsewhere.
