Paint the Town Red Torrent is an action game developed and published by South East Games. Paint the Town Red is divided into three primary modes, and each harbors a remarkable abundance of content. Naturally, the depth of this content is limited only by your enjoyment of the gameplay loop, but we’ll delve into that aspect later on. The initial and principal game mode is labeled Situations. These comprise five themed stages where your objective is to vanquish every opponent on the map.
The second mode is Arena, immersing you in a coliseum styled after gladiatorial contests. The final and arguably most intricate mode is the Depths mode—a comprehensive rogue-lite experience complete with character classes and a touch of narrative.
Despite the variety of game modes, the fundamental gameplay remains consistent: eliminate adversaries by any means necessary. As a brawling game, there are no constraints on how you pummel your foes. You wield standard punches, robust punches, and kicks. As you dispatch enemies, your special meter fills up, offering three distinct moves.
The initial tier unleashes a shockwave, propelling enemies through the air. Upon collision with walls, corners, or environmental features, voxel blood erupts, painting the surroundings. The second tier triggers a rage mode, slowing down time and elevating your punching power to staggering levels, resembling sledgehammers demolishing watermelons.
The third tier, named Smite, allows you to target an enemy, summoning a lightning bolt to obliterate them, creating shockwaves that affect nearby foes. These moves persist in Scenarios and Arena modes; the only alteration occurs in the Depths, which we’ll explore shortly.
Beyond your inherent powers, the level environments and objects within them play a crucial role. In Scenarios, each stage adopts a unique theme. Pirate Cove, for instance, features pirate elements such as ships, cannons, cutlasses, harpoons, flintlock pistols, and more. Notably, you can interact uniquely with this stage—striking enemies in the water summons a shark to devour them. Alongside themed weapons and items, each scenario includes commonplace objects like glasses, bottles, chairs, plates, etc. All items can execute basic attacks, strong attacks, and charged throw attacks.
Each Scenario introduces an extensive array of modifiers that completely reshape the gameplay. Some even alter the camera perspective entirely, as seen with the top-down modifier. Hard Hitter transforms all your punches into rage mode strikes. Random Allies grants NPCs to join your fight. There are also modifiers like Machete Time, Shocking Touch, Gun Show, Boom Hands, Splatter, Soft Voxels, and even one transforming it into SuperHOT. These variations ensure the game remains dynamic.
Paint the Town Red Torrent turned out to be a delightful revelation, surpassing my initial expectations. I was genuinely impressed by the wealth of content and the meticulous combat details, dispelling any concerns of it being akin to the Drunkn Bar Fight game. With diverse scenarios, modifiers, arena battles, and a comprehensive roguelike mode, entertainment is abundant here. If you’re seeking a game to enjoy mindlessly and revel in over-the-top gory fun, this one is worth picking up.
