Prince Of Persia The Lost Crown Torrent is the series first try at a modernized exploration game, which could have easily been seen as just copying others well. But with impactful fighting, smooth jumping, and new ways to discover, this latest Prince of Persia game makes the series a top choice once again.
Instead of the usual prince being the main character, you play as Sargon, the youngest member of a group called the Immortals – kind of like Persian superhero guards. When one of your group kidnaps the Prince and takes him to the mysterious and cursed Mount Qaf, you and the Immortals go to save him. This lets the story include Persian myths like the good god Simurgh, but it’s a very stylized version, not too worried about being historically accurate. It mixes history and myths with cool visuals inspired by anime and comic books.
Mount Qaf has a lot to explore – old temples, underground tunnels, royal libraries, caves, and more. It used to be the center of the kingdom but got messed up after King Darius died. And being cursed, the few people who live there talk like they’re outside of normal time, mentioning things from a long time ago or things that haven’t happened yet.
Mount Qaf is full of monsters and old guards, and it was built with traps and puzzles to keep out invaders. What’s cool is that while each part of the game is good on its own, putting them all together lets you try different things quickly, from fighting to jumping to solving puzzles.
Fighting is a big part of the game, especially with the amulet necklace system that lets you customize Sargon for different fights. You can find more amulets to add to your necklace, letting you play how you want. I liked focusing on staying healthy with life gained from blocking attacks, but you could focus on dodging or using special moves like a time bubble or shockwave.
Prince Of Persia The Lost Crown Torrent not only brings back what made games like The Sands of Time great, but it also fixes a lot of the problems with the 3-D games by going for a 2D view – and it works. It’s also really good as a traditional exploration game, sticking to what works but doing it well. The story might be confusing sometimes, but the fast and fun fighting, the good controls, and the cool style make Sargon’s journey worth it and make The Lost Crown a great addition to the Prince of Persia series.
