Sunkenland Torrent
Sunkenland Torrent is an action shooter game developed and published by Vector3 Studio. Sunkenland epitomizes the epitome of Jank. Numerous absent quality-of-life features, myriad bugs, and imbalances abound, and an overall ruggedness permeates nearly every mechanic you engage with. However, I cannot refute that after investing close to nineteen hours into the game, there is undeniably something enchanting about it.
To commence, let me delve into some of the rugged aspects of this game that might be discouraging, particularly for those unenthusiastic about survival crafting games. Most rational developers typically enable continuous harvesting by holding down the respective button. For instance, in the majority of survival crafting games and even farming sims, depressing the left mouse button ensures the character consistently falls a tree. Presently, in Sunkenland Torrent, you must click for EACH INDIVIDUAL SWING of the axe. This approach is a veritable recipe for early-onset carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis.
Initially, your backpack is rather diminutive, and even with upgrades, spatial constraints persist. Each item of clothing and decorative piece occupies a single slot—yes, even two identical shirts command two distinct slots. While you do possess a boat at your disposal, its storage capacity is limited, and there is no option for enhancement. Combine this with the fact that stack sizes are relatively minuscule.
A complete stack of ore comprises a mere five units. A full scrap stack consists of a mere ten pieces. These stack sizes are notably inadequate relative to the required resources and the abundance available at each location. For example, crafting a single metal wall consumes ten scraps. The paltry stack sizes result in a wearisome back-and-forth between your base and the current scavenging location. Although the developers purportedly increased stack sizes in an update, the difference was inconspicuous unless initiating a new save.
As you persist in playing the game, an unusual allure and charm gradually emerge. Rust adeptly captures this sentiment, particularly in collaborative gameplay. Nothing surpasses utilizing a midi player to prank those raiding your base with in-game instruments, all the while spewing absurdities through proximity voice chat. Rust holds a special place in my memories, especially when enjoyed with friends.
Concerning gunplay, the crossbow stands out as the most dependable early-game weapon. Achieving a shot from a distance feels gratifying. I found myself piloting a weathered pedal boat at a considerable distance from enemy bases, aiming high to secure long-distance headshots. Enemies remain oblivious, and even if they react, their gunfire lacks reach. While it may take some trial and error, with practice, the base becomes devoid of adversaries.
