The mischievous deeds assigned to you can range from pilfering food for a picnic to filching a gardener’s keys from his waist to untying a young boy’s shoelaces, frightening him until he flees and stumbles, then promptly taking his glasses and allowing him to blindly search the ground until you return the wrong pair. It’s wonderfully malevolent.
Controls are user-friendly and unobtrusive to your mission of wreaking havoc. Hold one button to sprint instead of waddle, one to crouch down, another to flap your wings, another to seize or release items—and that’s essentially it. Objectives are presented via a ‘to-do’ list in the pause menu, predominantly involving making the villagers’ lives miserable. While you’re free to indulge in your goose-related fantasies as you see fit, these objectives serve as a guide, showcasing the possibilities and aiding in unlocking the entirety of the compact yet bustling map.
One of the initial tasks I accomplish is snatching the gardener’s keys from his pants, making a dash for the lake, honking triumphantly as he pursues me, and dropping the keys into my aqueous domain far from his grasp before leisurely paddling around with an air of indifference. Later on, I’ll drench the poor soul, steal his lunch, coerce him into repurchasing his trowel, and more. Remember, this is merely the initial sector of the village.
Once the entire village opens up to exploration, you have the option to undertake the additional challenge of completing all its objectives within a stringent time frame. This demands foresight and, at times, a shift in tactics if your usual approach proves too time-consuming. A game that is typically laid-back and playful suddenly transforms into a frenzied test of speed and improvisation.
