Worms Reloaded Torrent is an action game developed and published by Team17. Most games would struggle to persist for such a prolonged duration without substantial alterations, but Worms consistently manages to evade this challenge. As exemplified by Worms 3D, it’s not a framework that benefits from excessive tampering, and one quickly becomes engrossed in the enjoyment of obliterating adversaries with a precisely arced bazooka projectile or latching onto a cliff to deliver a humiliating prod to an enemy’s last worm, sending it into the nearest ocean. Reloaded’s innovative features build upon this rather than revolutionizing it, introducing elements like vertical maps, skirmishing atop open-air forts, and a lackluster Ninja Rope race mode.
Die-hard enthusiasts may bristle at specific balancing adjustments, particularly the feel and physics of the Ninja Rope and the limitation of four worms per team. For everyone else, the most significant change is the incorporation of additional defensive armaments: Sentry Guns to secure portions of the map and Electromagnets that repel incoming assaults.
These modifications transform Worms into a slightly more strategic game but somewhat compromise the simplicity of mere projectile exchanges. If you appreciate them or the other, more whimsical new weapons, hooray. If not, at least you can deactivate them in the comprehensive yet oddly cumbersome ruleset editor.
Alterations to the single-player experience are less captivating, mostly because solitary Worms gameplay is as purposeless as Strip Solitaire in a nudist colony. You encounter escalating deathmatches, a campaign that reasonably diversifies the action with puzzle maps and asymmetric teams, a one-worm army survival mode, and numerous other choices, but none of them are particularly enjoyable due to the excessively erratic AI. One moment it’s executing mathematically implausible trick shots, the next it’s damaging the environment or engaging in self-destruction. At best, it’s as uninteresting as a paste.
However, multiplayer in Worms Reloaded Torrent is unquestionably the focal point, and despite a few synchronization problems mid-game, an excessively oversized UI, and challenges in finding public games in the server browser that will hopefully be addressed soon, Worms retains its greatness. It’s a straightforward, aesthetically pleasing game, and although you might cringe at paying for it once again, Reloaded is an excellent version that will re-enchant both fans and newcomers alike with the charm of the spineless creatures.
The 14 novel weapons encompass ferrets that actively hunt down enemy worms concealing themselves in subterranean tunnels, a sentry gun that persists in the world until obliterated, automatically targeting any foe that ventures too near, and a totem that gradually drains life from enemies while restoring the health of allies, among others. Numerous classic weapons can still be found in the arsenal, ensuring that no adversary worm is ever truly beyond reach.
If foes attempt to conceal themselves underground, for instance, you might deploy a bunker buster or a concrete donkey onto them or, depending on your proximity to the targets, reach them with a well-placed buffalo of lies or a deftly guided super sheep. Fortunately, the most potent weapons in the game all come with cooldowns, preventing the risk of everyone indiscriminately deploying them as soon as a battle commences.
